Pastor's Point:  A Word from Senior Pastor Joe Marquez

November 16, 2008

Philippians 1:21 says, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” As I was studying this portion of scripture this verse really stuck out to me! I began asking myself if for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Can I honestly say that this is true, that Jesus is the most important person to me, that Jesus is the passion of my life? Honestly, sometimes He is and that is why I am here in San Antonio. I am only here because of Jesus Christ. He brought me here!

But I also honestly know that Jesus is not always the passion of my life. It is at those times that I actually am cheating myself out of God’s blessing because there is no better life than a life full of Jesus Christ.

This is why the Apostle Paul could say, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” This is why Paul would endure trial after trial as he went proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul knew that there was no better life than living for Christ. Paul knew God’s love in every area of his life and that is why he could say, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

My prayer for each of us is that we also would be able to say, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” May we live for Christ and enjoy the abundant life He gives us!

Until He Comes,

Pastor Joe
